Oak Standoff Desk

I designed and built this one-off white oak and fir writing desk. The base is dyed select douglas fir featuring tapered legs and gently curved stretchers. The base is constructed using pinned half-lap and mortise and tenon joinery. Eight polished brass standoffs connect the base to the top. The top is solid white oak with dyed black grain accents and gently curved edges to match the base. The front edge has a larger roundover to provide a soft edge on the working side of the desk. Bowtie inlays dot the edges of the desktop, providing an interesting and fun design element. The base and top are finished with a hand-rubbed hard wax oil for a durable, close-to-the-wood finish.
